Physical Therapist/Physical Therapist Assistant

  • NEW PT licensees in NC are assigned to the continuing competence reporting period that begins on January 1 following the date of first licensure. Each PT licensee must accumulate 30 points and each PTA licensee must accumulate 20 points of continuing competence activities during the assigned reporting period to be eligible for license renewal. The points must include one mandatory point from a Jurisprudence Exercise.
  • For example, if you were first licensed after February 1, 2013, your continuing competence reporting period begins January 1, 2014 and ends January 31, 2016. There is a 25 month period to complete the continuing competence requirement. License renewal is EVERY year.

Occupational Therapist/Occupational Therapist Assistant

  • CCA must be completed by June 30th of the renewal year. CCA must be related to roles and responsibilities in occupational therapy and must serve to protect the public by enhancing the licensee’s continuing competence, in providing occupational therapy services.
  • Occupational therapists and occupation therapy assistants applying for license renewal shall document having earned a minimum of 15 points for approved continuing competence activities.

Licensed Massage Therapist

  • If your licensure period is two years or more, you are required to take a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education, which shall include a minimum of 3 hours of ethics, in order to renew your license. You may only take a maximum of 12 hours of distance learning and a maximum of 3 hours of business management should you choose to take either.
  • If your licensure period is less than two years, but more than one year, the licensee will be required to take a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education, which shall include a minimum of 3 hours of ethics, in order to renew your license. You may only take a maximum of 6 hours of distance learning and 2 hours of business management should you choose to take either.

Athletic Trainers

  • 24 required continuing education hours every 2 years.
  • Current licenses will expire at midnight, Eastern Time, January 31, 2015.
  • License must be renewed each year.
